As the husband of a public school teacher, I know firsthand what teachers are experiencing. I believe that education is a national security issue and should be handled as such. Teaching is a profession like no other and they need our support. Teachers should not have to struggle to provide for their families while trying to repay their student loans. When I’m elected to Congress, I would sponsor legislation to amend the H.R. 2669 College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, which would eliminate the federal student loan debt of all teachers who have completed five years of service in a public or private school. I would also include all public service employees that have been predefined under the department of Education’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
