I’m running for Congress because our children deserve an equitable education that isn’t compromised by funding formulas. The inadequacies’ in educating our children is a national security issue and should be dealt with accordingly. The budget for the Department of Defense is over $700 billion dollars while the department of Education’s $60 billion.
When elected, I would reintroduce H.J.Res 29 that proposes a 28th amendment to the Constitution of the United States regarding the right of all citizens of the United States to a public education of equal high quality.
Currently, the Department of Education, i.e., the Federal Government contributes about 8% to funding public schools. The Federal Government has a larger responsibility and there needs to be a national minimum standard as to what factors determine a high-quality education because states should not be deciding who wins and who loses because of their zip code. Using local property taxes only perpetuates the effects of ongoing housing discrimination and racist housing policies in African American communities.
